Youth Sports Are Starting Back Up: Preventing Sports Injuries in Kids

The sheer volume of sports injuries in kids can be a huge deterrent for parents to allow their kids to participate in sports.

Just attend a game, match or race of any type - football, baseball, wrestling, volleyball, lacrosse, gymnastics, track... and look around at all the kids in boots, tape, and other injury treatment devices.

At Breaking Through we want to help make sure sports injuries are not a part of their athletic experience.

Does your child love the thrill of competition, the camaraderie of teammates, and the rush of winning?

🏆🥇

You likely want to join the proud parents cheering them on from the sidelines and you're not wrong to worry about the potential for injury. Every year, more than 3.5 million kids across the United States receive treatment for sports-related injuries.

Incorporating Breaking Through can be the ideal formula for preventing sports injuries in your child's athletic journey.  As parents ourselves, we understand the importance of keeping young athletes healthy and in the game.

That's why we've incorporated the innovative One80® System into our practice to help prevent injuries and optimize performance. 🙌🏼

Tips to Prevent Sports Injuries in Kids

Here are some key ways we can help your child have a safe and successful season:

  • Pre-Season Optimization: We start with a comprehensive full body assessment. This uncovers any underlying movement dysfunction or weaknesses that could increase injury risk.
  • Movement Restoration: Based on the initial assessment, we create a personalized plan to address any movement limitations. This proactive approach helps your child move more efficiently and confidently.
  • Injury Prevention Strategies: We'll teach your child specific exercises and techniques to improve motion, strength, and stability. These skills are crucial for preventing common sports injuries.
  • Communication and Collaboration: We believe in open communication. We'll work closely with you and your child to ensure a well-rounded approach to injury prevention and peak performance.

3 More Tips to Prevent Sports Injuries in Kids:

Here are some additional things to consider to keep your child athlete healthy this sports season:

  • Proper Warm-up and Cool-down

    • Warm-ups and cool-down exercises can help prevent sports injuries. Encourage your child athlete to always warm up using the exercises we prescribe before practice or competition and the same for cool down afterwards. This helps prepare muscles for activity! Our physical therapists work closely with you and/or your coaches to find the best warm-up routines for your student athlete and/or their team.
  • Keep Your Child Hydrated

    • Hydration is Key: Make sure your child stays hydrated throughout the day, especially during practices and games.
  • Do Not "Push Through Pain"

    • Have your child athlete listen to their body. Encourage your child to communicate any pain or discomfort they experience. Don't push through – early intervention can prevent more serious injuries.
